Summary
Saltwater fish, Surgeonfish/ To be found around shallow reefs, usually in
small groups with other doctorfish. A deep, compressed body with a
continuous dorsal fin, small mouth and a razorlike spine at the
beginning of the tail.
To be confused with
- Blue Tang Acanthurus coeruleus.
Characteristics
Size:15 to 30 cm, max 45 cm.
Colour: A colour changer at will, it can vary from bluish-grey to yellowish-dark brown. The rear edge of the eye is dark with yellow thin lines, radiating outwards.
Shape: A deep, compressed body with a continuous dorsal fin, small mouth.
Habitat environment and ecology
It is found in shallow reefs, usually in small groups with other
doctorfish. It feeds by day on short algae that it scrapes from the
rocks.
