Summary

Massive smooth tubulate sponge with rounded top. Grows in clusters, tube walls may be fused. Greyish brown to orange or pink. The broad rims of the opening typically lighter. 

To be confused with

Brown tube sponge, Agelas conifera.

Characteristics

Size: High up to 50 cm.
Color: Greyish brown to orange or pink.
Shape: Tubular with rounded top. Thick walls.
Consistency:  Tough.


Habitat environment and ecology

Usually below 15 meters.
