Summary
Saltwater. Stony Corals. Colonies form large, mostly thick plates,
broad, rounded or acute, often overlapping each other. The upper surface
bears concentric rows of ridges with relatively wide, straight or
reticulate, valleys. The white, star-like, polyps are in the valleys'
center. The underside of the colony is smooth, without polyps.
To be confused with
- Sunray Lettuce Coral Leptoseris cucullata
- Dimpled Sheet Coral Agaricia grahamae
Characteristics
Size: 30 to 180 cm
Colour: Yellow-brown to golden-brown to brown, sometimes with bluish or grayish tints, with contrasting white polyps.
Shape: Massive overlapping plates cover large areas. Colonies grow in massive thin sheets or flattened plates that often form large whorls and occasionally spirals and bowls.
Habitat environment and ecology
Inhabits reefs. Inhabit sloping reef faces and along walls. Colonies

BES-eilanden: St. Eustatius.
