Summary

Saltwaterfish. Parrotfishes. Inhabits mid-to-shallow reefs, wanders around by day scaping algue from corals and rocks.

To be confused with

- Queen Parrotfish Scarus vetula
- Princess Parrotfish Scarus taeniopterus.

Characteristics

Size: 30 to 60 cm.
Colour: Male is brilliant green with pale purplish-orange markings on the head, blue mouth. The initial phase adult has a dark brown upper body, with white scales and red fins. The Juvenile is reddish-brown with lighter underside and white spots.
Shape: Big, sturdy fish, elongated and beaked mouth to scrape at the coral.

Habitat environment and ecology

Inhabits coral reefs.  Inhabits mid-to-shallow reefs, wanders around by day, scaping algue from corals and rocks, with beaked mouth.

Distribution range

BES-eilanden: St. Eustatius.
