Habitat environment and ecology
Size: 15 to 25 cm, max 32.5 cm.
Colour: Male has yellow-green body with red, blue and yellow ptaches on the sides. Initial phase can range from mottled grey-brown with 2 long white stripes, to a green with red fins. Juvenile is reddish-brown with a white stripe, has a distinctive black blotch behind the head.
Shape: Elongated with beaked mouth to scrape at the coral.
Distribution range
Inhabits coral reefs, shallow reefs. Wanders around by day, scaping algue from corals and rocks, with beaked mouth.
