Saltwater fish, Damselfishes. Found mainly on coral reefs, adults live in group with other adults, can defend their territory.
To be confused with
- Cocoa Damselfish Stegastes variabilis
- Dusky Damselfish Stegastes adustus
Characteristics
Size: 8 to 10 cm, max 12,5 cm
Colour: Deep brown-gray body with hints of yellow. A dark spot on the base of the pectoral fin. Juvenile is brilliant yellow with a large black spot on the lower dorsal fin and a small black spot on the top of the fin base.
Shape: Body laterally flattened, oval in profile.
Habitat environment and ecology
Inhabits coral reefs. Occurs above steep slopes and patch reefs, between 2 and 40 m.

BES-eilanden: St. Eustatius.
