Flying gurnard

Summary
Saltwaterfish. Flying gurnards. Found on sandy, grassy bottom. Often
seen 'walking' along on its pelvic fins, using its pelvic spines to move
rubble and probe for food. When alarmed it unfolds the large pectoral
fins into 'wings' and glide away.
To be confused with
- Sand Diver Synodus intermedius
Characteristics
Size: 30- 45cm.
Colour: Yellow brown with white spots, fins wlth blue spots and lines.
Shape: Elongated body, large squarish head. The large pectoral fin, when fanned out, is as big as the body of the fish.
Habitat environment and ecology
Inhabits coral reefs. When alarmed it spreads its large pectoral fins and glides away.
