Summary
Saltwaterfish. Sea Basses and Groupers. Solitary fish where it drifts
around reefs, seagrass beds feeding on crustations. Adults live in pairs
and protect a territory.
To be confused with
- Chalk Bass Serranus tortugarum
- Lantern Bass Serranus baldwini
Characteristics
Size: 5 to 10 cm.
Colour: Greenish-white upper body with 7 dark brown bars.
Shape: cilindrical body with a pointed head.
Habitat environment and ecology
Inhabits coral reefs. Solitary fish where it drifts around reefs,
seagrass beds feeding on crustations. Adults live in pairs and protect a
territory. At spawning with full moon, they can both be male and
female, taking turns. It is curious and approachable.

BES-eilanden: St Eustatius.
