to yellow-orange forebody and tail. Mid and rearbody black. Shallow coral reefs, where it patrols its territory daily.
To be confused with
- Blue Angelfish Holacanthus bermudensis
- Queen Angelfish Holacanthus ciliaris
Characteristics
Size: 12 to 20 cm, max 30 cm.
Colour: Black with yellow head, fins and along the edges. The lips may be blue or black, the upper and lower parts of the iris are bright blue.
Shape: Oval.
Habitat environment and ecology
Inhabits coral reefs. Shallow coral reefs, where it patrolls its
territory daily, staying close to the reef and its protective crevices.
It is a shy fish that hides when approached too closely.
