Summary

Saltwater fish, Grunts. It prefers shallow reefs and seagrass beds with clear water. By day it drits in small groups near the bottom.

To be confused with

- Caesar Grunt Haemulon carbonarium
- Bluestriped Grunt Haemulon sciurus


Characteristics

Size: 17 to 25 cm, max 32,5 cm.
Colour: White body with yellow stripes. A broad black patch runs along the upper back and lower dorsal fin. And a bronze-black stripe runs from the snout through the eye.
Shape: Long, slender.


Habitat environment and ecology

Inhabits coral reefs. It prefers shallow reefs and seagrass beds with clear water. By day it drits in small groups near the bottom. Juvenile inhabit deeper waters.
