Summary
Colonies are small clumps of tubular corallites. Together clumps can
cover many square metres, particularly under overhangs, in caves and in
other darkened locations. Colonies are orange or red. Polyps are
usually extended at night, and are bright yellow
Characteristics
Size: Colonies (clumps) up to 15cm in diameter.
Colour: Skeleton orange or red, polyps yellow.
Shape: Skeletons of individuals cylindrical, 1cm in diameter and 4 cm long. Foms clumps that can join to cover a wider area.
Habitat environment and ecology
Often occurs on dock pilings, buoys, cave ceilings and on the undersides of large rocks, down to 40 m.
Distribution range
BES-eilanden: Bonaire, Saba, St. Eustatius.
