Summary

Brain corals. Stony corals. Colonies form smoothly plates to hemisherical domes. Long valleys are often connected and usually convoluted, except near colony's edge.

To be confused with

Knobby brain coral Pseudodiploria clivosa
(The latter species has rather hooked curves and may have irregular knobs protruding from the on the surface.)
- Boulder brain coral Colpophyllia natans.
(The latter species has a groove on top of the ridges.)

Characteristics

Size: Up to 2m in diameter.
Colour: Green to brown or bluish.
Shape: Colonies form smoothly plates to hemisherical domes. Long valleys are often connected and usually convoluted, except near colony's edge.

Habitat environment and ecology

Inhabit various environments, mostly between 6 and 12 meter.

BES-eilanden: Bonaire, St. Eustatius
